The Nehru Zoological Park is situated in the city of
Hyderabad, opens at 8.30 a.m every morning except the national and local
holidays. You will be amazed to know that even when the city faces humidity in the
summers, it is this zoo that has a cool and pleasant environment as there are
sprays fitted on the cages of different animals which add moisture into the
air.
The zoo authorities take good care of the animals as they feed bucket full
of apples, boiled eggs and boiled vegetables to the primates, fodder to the herbivores,
raw beef to the carnivores thereby serving the herbivores and carnivores two
times a day and animals such as the large boars are fed food once in a week, so
it is in this planned manner that the animals are maintained in the zoo.
THE FIFTY YEARS OF THE
ZOOLOGICAL PARK
This year that is 2013, the Nehru Zoological Park is going
to celebrate its 50 years of existence in the city of Hyderabad. It is one of
the largest zoos that we have in India with an area of about 380 acres and
thereby being home to some of the most diversified animals and birds.
The zoo
was originally at the Nampally Public Gardens and it is in the year 1963 that
it was shifted to Bahaddurpura (Neeralam tank). A whooping number of 15 lakh
visitors visit the zoo each year. By each passing year the authorities of the
zoo introduce some special ways so as to make the zoo a better and more
interesting place to the visitors.
OLDEST OCCUPANTS
The zoo is having a more than an eighty year old Tortoise
and an Elephant whose age is far more than the count of years of the zoo park
itself. These two animals were transferred from the Nampally Public Gardens and
since then they are taken very good care of that is along with other animals of
the zoo.
NOCTURNAL ANIMALS
One amongst the many unique features of the Hyderabad zoo is
that it is able to feature the activities of the nocturnal animals in the day
time to the visitors. This is by using technology in the enclosure of the zoo.
This is by way of regulating control over the light system.
The lights are
gradually dimmed in the day time featuring it to be night to the nocturnal
animals so that they can be active before the visitors visiting the zoo, and
during the night the light systems are brightened so as to portray as if it is
day thereby for them to sleep and take rest.
WHITE TIGERS CUBS
It is here that you will be able to witness two to ten year
old cubs of white tiger in their natural habitat thereby giving you the very
opportunity to capture each and every moment into your cameras.
THE SAFARI
To have the closest view of the animals you can make use of
the netted buses which are provided to the visitors so as to enrich their
feeling towards the wildlife at maximum level. You can see the lion, tiger,
bear, bison etc by making use of the safari facility.
To sum up the Nehru Zoological Park in every aspects
provides all the reasons to be visited especially to the ones who love wildlife.
