Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach – The Largest Drive-in Beach in Asia



Stretching over an area of 4 km, Muzhappilangad beach is the only drive in beach of Kerala positioned in the North Kerala’s Kannur district. The abundance of beach activities, rich presences of floras all over, azure waters ideal for swimming and wide shores for comfortable
driving have made it a relaxing holiday and vacation destination for local people as well as tourist looking for some serene and tranquil place away from the day to day chaos of city life while in Gods own Country Kerala.  
        
Beach Activities:
Abundant of beach activities are available on this beach site including adventure sports parasailing, paragliding, power boating and other amusing things like catamaran ride and microlite flights.   

The 4 km long shores are adorned with boulders that it protects it from the strong currents along with the creation of a pool of shallow waters. A cool resting place is provided by the swaying palm groves on the mid day which offers an absolute ambience ideal for spending a couple of hours amidst the thriving beach site. Swimming in the shallow waters and sun bathing in the cool shade are the other things that you can enjoy while on this beach.

The most exciting thing about this beach is the driving on the shores which is allowed on the entire stretch. Unlike other beaches, the sand is soft and the shore is wide which makes it perfect not only for beach driving but also for long natural walks in the morning and in the evening for health as well as for viewing the dusk and dawn at its best.    

The beach is also famed for its Malabar cuisines, so while on a trip to this beach site relish some exotic culinary delights to satiate your flavor buds.  
  
One can also visit the nearby Dharmadam Island (Green Island), placed about 200 meters south from the shore. The island is festooned with coconut palms and bushes owing to which a visitor can view a luscious sight from a distant. Apart from the island, visitors visiting the Muzhappilangad Beach can also visit the Thalassery Fort and the renowned Thiruvangad Sree Ramaswamy Temple.

Beach Festival: Muzhappilangad beach celebrates the beach festival every year in the month of April with entertainment, amusing games and celebrities forming the major attractions. The local youths displays driving stunts in their cars and bikes.   

Best time to Visit: October to April is the ideal time to visit this gorgeous beach site as the temperature remains pleasant for relishing all the beach activities.  

Accommodation: You can stay in the Palmshore Beach Resort on the beach itself for an ideal beach stay or you can head on to Kannur or Thalassery for luxurious accommodations. Paris Residency, Malabar Avenue in Thalassery and Savoy Hotel, meridian Palace Hotel and High Palace Hotel in Kannur are some other hotels where you can opt to stay.  
    
How to Reach:
By Air: The nearest airport is Karipur International Airport at about 102 km via Edapally – Panvel Highway and Mangalore Airport at about 140 km.  

By Train: Thalassery at about 7 km and Kannur at about 16 km are the nearest rail heads.
By Road: Bangalore (300 km), Mangalore (140 km), Kannur (16 km) and Thalassery (7 km) are some of the closest cities. It is located close between Kannur and Thalassery (National Highway 17).
